It wasn’t long ago Drew Ginn, 3 times Olympic Gold Medallist, was facing an early retirement with a back injury. Today after surgery, he has set his sights on the 2012 Olympics in London and has been training hard on his Malvern Star Oppy C7.
Drew Ginn OAM is an Australian triple Olympic Gold Medallist. Ginn won the Men’s Coxless Fours at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics as part of Australia's Oarsome Foursome. In 2004 Ginn joined fellow rower James Tomkins in winning Gold in the 2004 Athens Olympics and again in 2006 he won the men’s pairs at the rowing World Championships with fellow rower Duncan Free.
When in Beijing for the 2008 Olympics Ginn was in agony from his inflamed back following the cramped bus rides in China. Despite the pain, together with Duncan Free, Ginn managed to win gold in the Men’s Pairs rowing.
After their win in Beijing, Ginn could hardly walk and was told to rest for 6 weeks. In September last year, facing retirement from elite sport, Ginn had surgery to repair a ruptured disc in the L4/L5 region of his lower back.
Following his surgery Ginn used cycling to keep up his general fitness. Now with the support of Malvern Star he has began training for the 2012 Olympics in London.
Recently, Ginn took his Malvern Star Oppy C7 to the Monash University wind tunnel to find his most aerodynamic position.
Malvern Star are proud to support Drew Ginn, keep up the good work you legend.
